How should construction machinery batteries be maintained?

1、 Maintain a certain height of electrolyte level

According to usage requirements, the electrolyte level of used excavators should be 10-15mm higher than the electrode plate. When checking, first use a glass tube with an inner diameter of 4-6mm and a length of about 150mm, vertically insert it into the filling port until it contacts the upper edge of the electrode plate, and then use the index finger to press the electrolyte in the glass tube to the height where the electrolyte plane in the battery is higher than the electrode plate. After measurement, return the electrolyte in the glass tube. If the liquid level is not high enough, add distilled water in a timely manner. Do not add spring water, river water, tap water, or dilute sulfuric acid, otherwise it will increase the density of the electrolyte and damage the electrode plate. Attention should also be paid; Distilled water should be added when the battery is in a charging state to ensure more uniform mixing of the electrolyte; The liquid level should not be too high to prevent electrolyte overflow during charging and discharging.

2、 Timely remove the yellow white paste on the shell cover

The yellow white paste on the battery case cover is the result of sulfuric acid solution splashing around the battery case cover and electrode post, causing electrochemical corrosion at the electrode post. The white substance is lead sulfate, and the yellow substance is iron sulfate. It is highly corrosive and has a high resistance. If it is in contact with the wire, it will form a large contact resistance, causing poor conductivity.

For this purpose, it is necessary to frequently use alkaline water, or use cotton yarn soaked in 10% soda water or 10% ammonia solution to wipe off the electrolyte splashed from the battery shell and cover, so that the surface is always neutral. If there is oxide in the gap between the pole and the wire joint, a tool can be used to scrape it off.

3、 Regularly replenish charging

Generally, a discharged battery should be charged within 24 hours; For the batteries on stopped machines (or large equipment that is not currently in use), they must be recharged once a month; In use batteries should be removed and recharged every two months for maintenance of construction machinery batteries.

4、 Regularly check the density of the electrolyte

The electrolyte density must be adapted to the region and season in which it is located. According to practical experience, in most regions of China (except for extremely cold areas), the relative density of electrolyte for newly charged batteries can reach 1.20-1.25g/cubic meter before and after summer. When used batteries are recharged, the relative density of electrolyte should be maintained at 1.15-1.18g/cubic meter. The relative density of electrolyte in autumn should gradually increase from 1.18g/cubic meter to 1.25g/cubic meter, and in winter it should be adjusted to 1.285g/cubic meter. During the Spring Festival, distilled water should be gradually added to reduce the relative density, and the electrolyte density should be adjusted according to seasonal changes for maintenance of construction machinery batteries.
